The Bullan Ranch is located in Shasta County, west of Redding near the Shasta Trinity Alps. as well as the being the home to these beautiful majestic yaks, we are home to California Mini Pigs and California KuneKune pigs (plus a few other ranch friends as you can see). You have landed on our yak page, please feel free to text questions to Joe at 530-999-1732 or Anita at 530-514-3249
Tibetan yaks are a smaller, highly intelligent bovine that is affectionate and easy to train. They are a multi purpose animal and a pleasure to be around. They are quiet, they only eat 1/3 of regular cattle, gentle on the environment and offer a healthier red meat option compared to beef. People use them for fiber, milk/cheese, packing, riding and raising for consumption. Our herd has doubled in just two years! We are ready to offer some of our offspring for sale, see near bottom of the page! We have found its best to get them right when they are weaned, they are highly trainable at this time and can be halter trained within 3 days! They typically wean around 5 months old when they are eating on their own and exploring the pastures on their own.
Yak meat is considered a healthier red meat option. Comparable to venison but without the gamey taste, the meat is very versatile like Angus beef but with only 5% fat. Take a look at the comparison:
Angus Beef is 20% fat
Bison is 18% fat
Yak is 5% fat with high Omega 3's
Our herd is raised free from antibiotics, hormones, and no over crowding which means less stress on the animals and less parasites. Pastures are rotated and only the best feed is bought for them.
We have liquidated the last of our yaks but are happy to offer referrals. Anita and Joe
